“Do not be afraid! Am I in the place of God?”
At this point, Jacob has died and the brothers are worried Joseph will seek his revenge. Apparently, they didn’t believe him when he was exercising compassion earlier in the story. But Joseph was as good as his word.
It’s worth remembering that if you have any authority over others, they might be afraid of you. And remember, too, you aren’t ever in the place of God. Kindness, compassion and humility are among a parent or leader’s best tools. —The Houston Pilgrim
