Genesis 26: And the Beat Goes On

Genesis 26:24.

“I am the God of your father Abraham; do not be afraid, for I am with you and will bless you and make your offspring numerous for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

Abraham has been, “gathered to his people,” and now leadership passes to his son, Isaac. It’s a scenario familiar to all of us. New leadership at work produces anxiety and the kind of change that isn’t always good. The kids take over the family business and spend their time squabbling rather than taking care of customers. Sometimes things work out grandly—sometimes they don’t. But when God appears to Isaac, it’s to reassure him that there’s continuity in the Kingdom of God. Situations change, we change, but God’s covenant relationship with us doesn’t. “I am with you and will bless you,” is a divine promise that we should hold close to our hearts. In and through God, the beat goes on.          —The Houston Pilgrim
